Hey Lacrossedeamon, WLF359, an employee of Guerilla, just messaged me back and told me that there will be an AMA, if there's any questions you would like to ask Ashly Burch and Lead Writer Ben McCaw, tell me and I'll relay them to her so she can ensure that they will be answered. :)
WLF359 : Hey! Just wanted to let you know before the official announcement: for the 1 year anniversary of Horizon, we're doing an AMA with Ashly Burch and the Lead Writer Ben McCaw on March 2nd on the Horizon subreddit. Might be interesting if there's still stuff missing on the Wikia!
If you have any questions and are going to participate in the AMA, you can send me your reddit user name (or the question you asked) so I can make sure that they answer your questions :)
Okay so I’m gunna have to do this in multiple posts because it was too long apparently and I lost all of it, but thank you for doing this. I work odd hours and probably won’t be able to participate directly. My Reddit user name is the same as this
For Ashly Burch:
Can I have your babies?... but for the real questions.
I read in a Kotaku article that you and Lance Reddick were never in the recording studio at the same time? Do you think the ability to work around schedules for voice actors and actresses like this is good for the industry or is some important chemistry lost due to it? Granted I never would’ve guessed that that was the case as I believe a Sylens and Aloy's interactions were the best in the game but do you feel the emotion and dialogue would’ve been even better if you and Lance had been working face-to-face?
Did you have to do any special training or studying in order to get ready for the role? We hear a lot about movie stars preparing for films and how rigorous that is. I assume it’s a bit different for voice acting but did you read any ethnographical or sociological works or learn a skill like archery in order to better embody Aloy's character? And has portraying her changed you in anyway as a person?
There were a lot of interesting and fan favorite side characters like Rost, Brin, Nil, etc. Is there a possibility of them being developed more in further entries or having their backstory focused and told in more detail? Maybe spin-offs?
There’s a growing trend for game series to develop into transmedia franchises? However, this can be very divisive for the fan community. Do you have any thoughts or insight on this topic? I know that Anne Toole was recently working with Ubisoft and Titan comics on the Assassin’s Creed franchise (one of my favorite series). Do you know if GG is considering something similar?
Do you already know how the series is going to end and are just working on how to get there? Like you already have points A and Z mapped out but need to figure out how the rest of the alphabet fits in (sorry that was probably a horrible analogy). Or are you letting the story grow more organically, waiting to see how things develop, with no clear endgoal yet?
I love how much attention to detail y’all put in the dialogue in regards to quest order, but I’m curious, do y’all have any form of canon order as if, say, y’all wanted to write a novelization of the game? FuturePress published a progression guide but it was more geared to speed runs, do y’all have something similar but more focused on narrative flow and pacing? Like how did y’all play the game?
Are there any details you can tell us about the setting of the next game? Will it take place in a brand new area or will we still be able to visit Meridian and the Embrace?
Are the red corruption clouds just artist representation or something more tangible like nanites?
Did Rost have access to something like a wet nurse while Aloy was a baby?
The FuturePress guide says Helis was away from Meridian when it fell but that’s contradicted in 'The Liberation' datapoint in the game. Any fix?
The Frozen Wilds guide corrected an erroneous belief that Tallnecks were recon class by introducing the comms class. However it raised another issue in its place by not categorizing the new Control Towers. Are they also within the comms class?
In the cosplay guide for Rost it mentions a precursor to the Stalkers used to make part of his outfit. Were there non-agressive variants of all combat machines prior to the Derangement and does this explain why we see something like a Thunderjaw during Aloy's naming ceremony, years before when there should be any as we were told in-game?
Is there an actual PSI Cauldron somewhere that Aloy just never had to visit?
What led to the genetic difference between Aloy and Sobeck and why was the number given as 99.47% similar when all humans are on average at least 99.90% similar?
Did you spare or kill Olin and Nil in your playthroughs? And why?
Do you frequent this subreddit any or similar forums? And have y’all seen any fan theories/headcanon/speculation you liked or found interesting?
And finally I just want y’all to know that this might be the best game narrative I’ve ever played, and that on the week it was released I spent 72 hours without sleep and only got around ten hours of sleep in total for that week due to work, eating, and this game. Thank y’all so much for this game and continuing to support it for so long. Also thank to the studio as a whole for the autographed art book.
Hey Lacrossed, unfortunately that is way too many questions haha. WLF has suggested to split it up into several posts, which probably needs multiple people posting. She also clarified that there should be a max of 3 questions per post, and that the AMA will be 7pm CST, so maybe you can make it? If you can't, you can tell me the 3 questions you are most itching to ask the two, and I will post it for you.
Edit: i just realised that I have classes during that time, do you think you can make it?
I cannot make it at all. I’ll still be at work for another two and a half hours. Depending on ops tempo I might be able to sneak on to Reddit but that’s by no means guaranteed.
And I’ve actually got another lore based question: The names for the Nora facepaint designs are by occupation but in game and elsewhere they seem to denote familial relationship. Which is it?
As for having to pick and choose which questions to ask is like Sophie's choice over here. Can they just be broken up into multiple posts? Like the Ashly one is one by itself, the Ben one can be split into two, the lore one split into the three, and the one for both be one by itself as well? Or can WLF pass the questions on beforehand? I realize the ones for Ben he might not be allowed to answer and that some of the lore ones might not have answers as well so I wouldn’t want to have thrown out some questions just to pick one that won’t be answered.
I'm a dummy, I read it as CST time, but it's actually CET time, I'm so sorry :X It will be 2 a.m.for me but still, I will be available to post in the reddit.
Also, I'm pretty sure that we have to post the questions in the AMA because 1. It's an AMA and 2. WLF told me "you can send me your reddit user name (or the question you asked) so I can make sure that they answer your questions :)"
On the sidenote, upon re-reading WLF's reply to the max questions thing, I just realised she only meant that it is 3 questions max per post, not per person. At your number of questions though, I think I might have to post at least 5 or 6 times :P
WLF: Perfect, I've discussed with the Reddit mod who will be moderating the AMA tomorrow, could you split up the questions in separate posts, max 3 questions per post. Would make it a bit more readable for other people joining the AMA
Sorry for the momentary confusion, Lacrossed hahaha
I guess cut the FuturePress one about Helis since the most likely answer is that FuturePress was mistaken. Also since I didn’t think either of us were going to be able to participate (I still won’t be able to most likely) I sent a link of this conversation to WLF359.
Hey, I've posted your questions, you can keep track of any replies here . I also squeezed in your Helis question since one Ben McCaw section only have 2 questions.
(P.s. I don't use reddit much, so I didn't know that the ratings would mess with the ordee like that, woops)
Thanks so much for passing those on. It was really great all the responses. Was surprised at how many questions they answered in total. Hopefully they schedule more cool events like this while we wait.
I'm thinking of linking some Frozen Wilds content into the main wiki header so that the DLC content will get more coverage, however, I am having a dilemma between three of the formats. Would like to know what you think about it in this talk page.
Actually, being buried up to your neck in dirt will still kill you. The shifting/compacting of the soil around your body would basically constrict you and cause you to suffocate slowly. So either way would suck royally.
.... good point. I basically live in a frozen tundra right now so I think I would take Banuk exile. I'd try to befriend some forest animals and cuddle up for warmth. Ugh but yes both would suck. Nora outcasting seems so tame compared to these. They're just like "ok you can't live here anymore."
A member of the Fandom staff has reached out to me and informed me that the HZD Wikia is now a candidate for video showcases, one of the features of Wiki Modernisation . It aims to reduce the number of ads on the site and improve the wiki's performance. In the future when they start producing videos, the Fandom staff may contact the admins and other users to get involved in writing the video scripts, or be involved in the production process. To get a clearer idea, you may want to check out the examples of the different videos they may produce .
Hey I know you’re taking some time off but I wanted to bring something up with about videos. I was recently contacted via Reddit by one of the editors here who wants to make videos. The person, http://horizonzerodawn.wikia.com/wiki/User:Random_Side_Quest, has a blog post similar to the message he sent me with links to some of his works. I’m think the person can help us get a start on this.
Hey, just wanted to ask why did you put "Firestriker" in the Ranged Weapons article? I remember it was an old name I put in the article a couple of months back because I couldn't remember the name of "Firespitter". ><
The Firestriker and firespitter are two similar but different weapons. The former being a more polished and stronger version of the latter. The firespitter can be found with bandits while the only place I can think off the top of my head for the Firestriker is the quest where you kill Zaid. They're both included in the game guide
Hey, great work on uploading all the Karakter concept art! I really appreciate it, cause I've been wanting to get those uploaded for ages and haven't had the time.
That said, though, could you try to provide more descriptive filenames for your images? I noticed most of them are named IMG_####, which makes it hard to search through them. Using the original filenames from the website, or just making up your own, would be nicer.
Also, make sure you include licensing information when uploading images- that's important for legal reasons. For concept art in particular, I always try to fill out the entirety of Template:Fileinfo and include a link to the original source.
Will do that later today. I've been hoping they'd release more portfolios and stuff. BTW your Oseram edit: I'm not sure if 'surname' is accurate. I don't think the names get passed so a father and son could have different last names if their professions differed. Maybe 'byname' would be a better fit? It's the medieval term for what became modern surnames.
Hey there Lacrosseddeamon! A member of Guerrilla Games' community team reached out to me on Twitter and told me they were interested in sending some power contributors of the wiki a gift for all the hard work they've put in here : > Please send me an email at email@example.com and I will relay your email to them. Thanks again for all the hard work!
I have created a To-do list, if you have any tasks that are need work, or you are currently working on, please include them in that page. Also, I have created an Editing Guidelines page. For now, it is empty as I feel we need to discuss and decide what we should settle on in the talk page first, so feel free to pop by to give your two cents. I have also added a "Contribute" dropdown in the Wiki Navigation under the "Horizon Zero Dawn" level. Right now, it has the Code of Conduct and To-do list, but once the editing guidelines are established, it will be placed there as well.
I am currently considering you for admin rights as I have noticed your consistent contributions to this wiki, as well as your ability to communicate and work with other active users. If you would like to become an admin, please answer the questions below honestly. If you decide that you do not want to be admin, then it's no problem and you do not have to answer the rest of the questions below.
1. Do you plan to regularly contribute to this wikia? If so, how often? (e.g. everyday/once a week/etc.)
2. As an admin, what do you plan to focus on?
3. How long do you plan to remain active on this wiki?
1. I try to contribute at least once a day.
3. I hope to see this wiki through a long and fulfilling franchise.
2. Hard question, this is the first wiki that I've been consistently active. I'm not quite sure what being an admin entails. What I view as my greatest contributions are not content based but my post on talk page which I hope gets user not to think about just the articles but the actual layout of the wiki itself. I am however currently trying to work on category flowchart to run by you to see if you think it makes the wiki more easily navigable or not.
Yep, I've seen the categorising you have done, and have noted that it has made the wiki considerably neater. As an admin, you are mainly in charge of the wiki's maintenance (check out the Wiki Maintenance category and Special:Insights page), and communicating between active users to prevent or resolve conflicts.
